LUKE STROSNIDER | CAMERA OBSCURA

NIGHT AND DAY (2006)

UNIQUE SILVER-GELATIN NEGATIVES FROM CAMERA OBSCURA PROJECTIONS

32 IN. x 80 IN. (DIPTYCH)

These two images represent the same view made at opposite times of day. A sunny day (left) presents itself as a negative - complete with black sky - and was made with an exposure of less than a minute. Conversely, the night image (right) took nearly ten hours to create, yet shows a blinding landscape punctuated only by artificial lights.

They are shown in thier original orientation, as images enter the camera obscura upside-down and backwards.
